Description:
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) measures the ability of non-native speakers of English to use and understand English as it is spoken, written, and heard in college and university settings.
Format and Delivery:
Currently TOEFL is available in an internet-based test and is offered on specific dates a few times a month. The test has four sections: Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing. Examinees are allotted four and a half hours to complete the exam. A valid passport is required.
Type:
TOEFL is used as a measure of English proficiency and is usually required as an admissions requirement for undergraduate programs for non-native speakers by many US colleges and universities to measure English proficiency.
Registration Process:
To register for TOEFL, please go to the registration link shown. This will connect you with the ETS registration website, find a testing location by selecting a country, then a state. Select the USF Testing Center as you choice for testing location. For telephone registration call 1-800-468-6335.
Test and Fees:
Currently, ETS charges $170 for the TOEFL. There are no additional USF fees as ETS pays USF a fee for each person tested. ETS may impose a "no-show" fee and additional fees for late registration, additional score reports, etc. Please see the registration website for fee schedule. There is a $60 fee to reschedule and this must be done three days before your test date.
Retest Policies:
Examinees can retake the TOEFL as many times as needed or as often as the exam is offered.
Testing Schedule:
Call 1-800-GO-TOEFL for testing dates and times. Seating for this exam is limited and offered on a first-come, first served basis. During periods of increased demand, your first-choice of testing date and time may not be available. Examinees should register as early as possible to avoid potential scheduling conflicts.
