Jack Robinson, archaeo-astronomer and professor emeritus at USF, collaborated on the project. He spent approximately 100 hours fixing the sun’s coordinates, when it seems to stand still for a moment during the day of the summer solstice. Complications arose since we are far enough north of the equator never to have the sun truly overhead and the land itself is uneven. Holt’s design was even more site-specific. The eight-point star pattern integrates it with the grid of walkways that runs throughout the campus. Meet at Cooper Hall at 11:45 a.m. to view a DVD, followed by a question-and-answer session. We will then proceed to the Solar Rotary to view the special alignment that happens only on this date and time.
