Financial Aid

Need money to pay for your continuing education?

Professional and Workforce Development does not offer courses for credit, and noncredit courses are not eligible for traditional federally-subsidized financial aid. However, you may be able to get a loan at an attractive interest rate to pay for your course.

Educational Benefits for Veterans

Are you eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill – Active Duty?

If so, you may qualify for the new Accelerated Payment benefit!

What is Accelerated Payment?

It is a lump sum payment of 60% of tuition and fees for certain high cost, high tech programs. Accelerated Payment is paid instead of Montgomery GI Bill benefits that you would otherwise receive.

How do you qualify for accelerated payments?

You must be eligible for the Montgomery GI Bill – Active Duty (Chapter 30) and you must enroll in a high-tech program and you must certify that you intend to seek employment in a high-tech industry as defined by the VA.

What Educational Outreach programs qualify for accelerated payment?

Some of our computer training certificate programs qualify.

How much will I get?

The VA will pay up to 60% of the cost of the certification program in a one time payment after the course has begun. It may take several weeks for the VA to make payment.

How do I sign up?

You must register for the course with Educational Outreach and pay the full cost of the certification program. Then take your confirmation to the Veterans Office in SVC. The VA counselor will assist you in applying for the Accelerated payment and prepare the necessary documentation for the VA.

What if I don’t have enough money to pay for the full cost of the certification program?

You may be able to obtain a student loan from Key Bank, Wells Fargo, SLM Corporation, or TERI and use the VA accelerated payment to help pay off the loan. Educational Outreach will also accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express, or Discover in payment for the program.

Do I have to pay back the money if I do not pass a certification test?

Yes, the VA may require you to pay back the accelerated payment if you do not pass a certification test. However, most certification tests can be taken as many times as needed to pass. We will also report you to the VA if you get an unsatisfactory by missing more than 20 % of the classes.

Where can I find out more information?

Check out this web site http://www.gibill.va.gov/education/News/Acceleratedpayinfo.htm or call the VA office at 813-974-2291.
